The Bhutan Standards Bureau
The Bureau shall have the mandate to:
(a) develop national standards and facilitate their implementation;
(b) establish metrological referral and calibration laboratories and facilitate development of testing infrastructure;
(c) operate product and management system certification schemes;
(d) develop and operate a national accreditation framework and system for laboratories and certification bodies;
(e) promote quality and standardization;
(f) implement World Trade Organization Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade; and
(g) to carry out such other mandate as may be assigned by the Royal government
The Bureau shall consist of the following members:
(a) A Chairperson ex-officio, who shall be the Minister in-charge of the Ministry having administrative control of the Bureau;
(b) The Secretary in-charge of the Ministry of the Royal Government having administrative control of the Bureau, ex-officio;
(c) The Director of the Bureau, ex-officio, who shall be the Member Secretary of the Bureau; and
(d) not more than 15 members representing industry, scientific and research institutions, consumer interests and other interests appointed by the Minister who shall possess knowledge of standards or other matters likely to be of assistance to the Bureau in the performance of its functions under this Act.
